September was a record-breaking month for Times Online, according to the ABCe results announced today. The site achieved its highest ever figures for global and UK unique visitors and global page impressions. It has enjoyed the highest month-on-month growth rate across all of the published UK national newspaper websites.
The September surge followed several months of strong growth since the relaunch of Times Online in February. Monthly UK unique visitors increased to 4.2 million and global monthly unique users increased to 12.5million, an increase of 1.6 million on January 2007. Global page impressions increased to 84.2 million, beating the previous best of 76.6million in August this year.
The key metrics were as follows:
The increase in traffic was due to improvements in search engine optimisation coupled with strong journalism. Coverage of rugby, football, Formula 1 and the Madeleine McCann story helped drive UK traffic to record levels, with exclusive stories such as Alan Greenspan’s claim that the Iraq war was really for oil and the Israeli attack on Syria’s nuclear cache lifting global numbers.
Zach Leonard, Digital Media Publisher, Times Online, commented: “September was Times Online’s most successful month ever in terms of traffic and we are delighted with its performance. Our advertisers and commercial partners can be confident that internet users are increasingly turning to Times Online for their news and views. This growth reflects the benefits of Times Online’s robust publishing platform, the hard work of its teams, and the power of our content and brand to draw the highest quality audience.”
